I've been testing the Crumpler Thirsty Al pouches for my compact Canon SD 700 IS, and it looks like I'm not going back.
The Thirsty AL series comes in 5 sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, and extra large. I've been using the small size for the the super compact SD 700. The pouches are well made combining Neoprene front and sides with super tough nylon 900D flap, spine, and back -- and 300D ripstop lining. The Velcro-secured top flap also contains a pocket to carry a spare memory card -- very handy for those of us who shoot movies as well as still photos. The back belt loop is also secured by Velcro and has a lanyard loop too. I've used the loop with my The Digital Story D-Ring keychain to secure the camera while on the go.
Since most compact cameras don't come with cases, I'd recommend this series of pouches as a thoughtful accessory. They come in five different color combinations (I'm using black at the moment), are quite handsome, very well made, and are intelligently designed. I can also recommend Thirsty Al's big brothers, the 4 Million Home and the 6 Million Dollar Home (both made by Crumpler) which I use for my Canon 30D. They are very well made, sling comfortably over the shoulder, and do not scream "Camera Bag".

Couple of thoughts here. First, I really like DIY camera pouches, and the eyeglasses approach is a favorite of mine. The advantage of the Crumpler pouch and others like it is, I do like the belt loop, place to attach the D-Ring, and the pocket for the memory card. No matter what you use, use something to protect your camera!

I found an easy solution for my SD700 IS. I'm using a sunglasses pouch/case. It has a drawstring top, is padded & very soft. Though it does make it bit bigger, it still fits in my coat/pants pockets. And there's still a bit of room for other things like an old polarized sunglass lens & a piece of white coffee filter (thanks Derrick). Doesn't have the belt loop but I haven't needed it yet.

Hey, I'm cool and hip and didn't even know it!
When I bought my Canon SD630 I got a case like this but didn't think much of it. I love it and its the perfect size. Mine is green and I bought it at the local Circuit City because I was in a hurry to protect my little gem.

This product works well as an improvised case for my Creative Zen M MP3 player. Although the shape isn't a perfect fit for a flat device, I've used it in this manner for over a year, and my MP3 player is is very good condition with no cracked screens; something which is a major flaw with this particular model.
Overall, it is a nice case for any properly sized delicate gadget, and has help up well under the abuse I subject it to.
