Recently in Photo Assignment

Each month you can participate in a photo assignment with other members of The Digital Story audience. The topic for the assignment will be revealed in the first podcast of the month. Then all you have to do is photograph your interpretation of that theme, and send it in via email. Title your subject line: Photo Assignment [month, year]. Attach your entry making sure that it is no wider than 600 pixels. Include a sentence or two about why you took this approach, the camera you used, and any setting details that you think are important. Address your email to: derrick@thedigitalstory.com Each month the best submissions will be published on The Digital Story site. Enter up to 3 photos for each assignment.

The June 2014 assignment is "Any Kind of Light but Natural." Details can be found on the Member Participation page. Deadline is June 30, 2014. No limit on image size submitted.

For example, the subject line for this month's assignment should be: "Photo Assignment: June 2014." Also, if you can, please don't strip out the metadata. "Eilean Donan is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland second only to Edinburgh, but most of the shots are taken from the side showing the bridge that leads to the castle. I wanted to taken something different and waited until there was no one on the bridge and took the shot so the the bridge was leading you to the castle."

Photo by Carl Shortt. "My son and I went on a once in a lifetime photography trip to Bosque del Apache, New Mexico in December 2012," Carl wrote. "The weather was very cold but the birds were quite active. This shot was taken at dusk. The clouds offered a colorful background to the bird silhouettes. There really wasn't much light, yet the 5D MIII was able to easily obtain and maintain focus in this low light environment. Specs: Tripod mounted Canon 5D III, Lens Canon 400mm DO F/4 w 1.4 Canon converter, ISO 800, F 5.6, 1/500.
